Many people think that they are covered because they know someone who is a lawyer and that they can handle any legal issue that comes up. That's what Claire Dunphy thought. But, it's like saying my uncle/sister/friend is a doctor, so I don't have to worry about getting sick. So, if you have a cough and your friend is an orthopedist, you'll be comfortable with that?

The point is, the legal system is set up so that it has become too expensive to get the justice needed unless your pockets are deep. That leads to people subsrcibing to the sub-system of "Who You Know" Justice used in this episode of "Modern Family aired on ABC on November 7, 2012 entitled, "Arrested".
